May is Mental Health Month!

Posted in Those that need help tagged , , , , at 3:07 pm by Every Cent Counts

May 16th is a day recognized by many bloggers as the mental health blog party day! The American Psychological Association has encouraged bloggers everywhere to unite and incorporate mental health into their blogs. If you have read this blog, you know that the majority are written on various mental health concerns and how to further educate yourself on the various topics. So today rather than delve into one particular mental health area, I am going to educate you a bit about the notion of paying it forward and how that can be incorporated into mental health for one day.

It is common knowledge to those in the mental health field, and those suffering from a mental illness, that stigma is huge. Overcoming sitgma can seem an impossible task. So today I propose that we put our own spin on the idea of paying it forward (one good deed done unto you, results in you doing three good deeds for someone else, as a way of paying back the debt).

Instead lets agree to bring up mental illness in a conversation. Then ask that those around you do the same, and talk about mental illness with others they come into contact with. These actions will put us one step closer towards ending the stigma associated with mental illness.

If you are still feeling generous remember to visit our new website at www.everycentcounts.org and help a client fulfill a need today. Every little bit helps.

Now I leave you with this quote:

“Together we can change the world, one good deed at a time.”
