The Stigma of Living with Mental Illness

Posted in Those that need help tagged , at 5:39 pm by Every Cent Counts

1 in 6 adults suffers from a diagnosable mental illness. For these people the stigma of mental illness prevents them from seeking help, which could greatly improve their lives.

Luckily, there are organizations that strive to end the stigma associated with mental illness, and remind those that don’t understand what it is like to live with such a condition, that it isn’t what you see in the movies. The behavior that you see are symptoms of the illness, not the sign of a psychopathic killer.

Two organizations that I, personally, would recommend are http://bringchange2mind.org/ and http://www.nami.org/template.cfm?section=fight_stigma both strive to raise awareness about mental illness and end the negative perception.
