Anxiety in small amounts is a perfectly normal response to stress. It is when it begins to affect your everyday life and functioning, that it has become a problem. Anxiety disorders come in many different forms ranging from panic attacks to obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Anxiety can affect anyone at any time, but women are at a higher risk of experiencing an anxiety disorder at some point in their lifetime. With proper treatment anxiety can be managed so that it doesn’t interfere with everyday life.

Many people suffering from anxiety believe that others don’t understand what they are going through, and that it is not easy to overcome. For them returning to what was once a “normal” life is an impossibility. As someone who has suffered from panic attacks from a very young age, I want to assure you, that things can get better. There comes a point where you learn how to manage the anxiety, and it stops being such an integral part of your life, but rather a minor inconvenience that makes you stronger.

Please, if you or someone you know is suffering from anxiety, visit this website http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/anxiety-disorders/index.shtml or call 2-1-1  (www.crisiscenter.com) for assistance.
